This week in class

This won’t be a regular feature of the website, but for this week only, I’m going to post some of what we’re working on for you to access at home. These activities need to completed IN CLASS unless there is an absence. Thanks, as always, for all you do!

Math:
Completing Topic 7 and taking the Topic 7 test. For extra practice, you can visit superteacherworksheets.com and download two-digit by two-digit multiplication problems.

Reading/Social Studies:
We are reading an article about the Seminole Wars and on Friday will be taking a short test on the article. As we are reading, we are thinking of “thick” questions to help us understand the text.
Vocabulary words for the week:
 - land grant
 - plantation
 - territory
 - compromise
 - reservation

Language Arts:
We have been examining the difference between expository and narrative writing. Thursday we will be completing a “quick write” of the following prompt. This must be completed in no more than 45 minutes.
“We all have something that is special for us. It could be a person, place or thing. Think about something that is special for you. Now write to explain why it is special to you.”

Science:
We started a lab on sound waves before Thanksgiving break, and we finished it on Monday and Tuesday. We will also be doing a lab on Heat Lab Thursday.

Have a great week!

Social Studies Project

Attached you will find directions for the Social Studies project that will be due December 16th. Students will have some time in class to work on the project, but may need additional time at home to complete it. All information that students will need to complete the project at a basic level will be provided in class, but to go “above and beyond” students will need to do additional research outside of what is provided.

Native American or Explorer project Dec

***Update: All topics have been assigned and information is in their textbook (Chapters 5-7). For some topics, I have also provided additional resources, but more can be found on the websites listed on page 2 of the assignment.
